Of course it is, as much as it is to travel with other airlines.
Undoubtedly, MAS is having a bad year with two tragedies in mere 4 months. But instead of dissing them, let’s look at how much of what’s happened is out of their control.
With the fishy disappearance of MH370, and the continuous jump of location of search – no doubt MAS has gotten itself a bad reputation. Messy reactions and the lack of transparency in their search cut deep. Losing the trust of many of its fliers, their revenue took a hit.
MAS was losing out to a lot of other airlines, and with this new news of MH17, it’s not going to get easier for them.
But it’s important to know that MAS is at no fault in this recent incidence. Many airlines were flying the same route, a lot of planes flew the same path. MH17 got unlucky, a fallen victim from somebody else’s war.
No prayers can be offered, further investigations and finger pointings will not bring the dead back and telling the family members to find peace with their loss is plain cruel. Only time can heal the pain of hearts, and restore Malaysians’ trust in MAS again.
Back to the question of is it safe to travel with MAS anymore?
I say yes, now more than ever. Following recent issues, MAS is surely more careful, to step up their games and avoid more lawsuits. If anything can’t we say that travelling in the skies involve luck just as much as skills of airline personnel? Travelling to the airport is proven to be more dangerous than the flight itself.
Can we all just give MAS a chance, and stop with the “again”, “no more flying with MAS” and the degrading Malaysia comments? They sure can’t bring the dead back. I’m not a hard core patriotic person, but I’m not up for dissing someone when it’s not due.
Then again MAS, be controlled and professional with the people this time round. Hopefully the experience helped.
