This charming guesthouse, named Tea Horse Guesthouse after the tea horses that frequented this trail in the olden days is the best bargain you’ll get in TLG.
Slightly more than halfway from the trek, about 2 hours after finishing the 28 Bends, you’ll come across this guesthouse – there’s no way you’ll miss it. It’s very obvious and you’ll have to cross it to get on with the trek.
If you’d started in the afternoon, you’ll reach this guesthouse slightly before dark (which usually is at 7.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. ). Make sure you can get to the guesthouse before this time, as it gets cold after dark and you surely don’t want to be stranded in the teeny tiny trail with a gorge several hundred meters below you! If you think you cannot make it, go back to the nearest guesthouse ( ie : Naxi Family Guesthouse ).
Better be safe than sorry.
The price for the 6-bed dorm room is 30 yuan per person. Towel is available upon request. The canteen serves good food for quite cheap, considering we’re above and beyond. The guesthouse owners are good with a little English (not too much), but they are very, very friendly.
In the morning before you start your trek, be sure to head out (at about 6.30 a.m. ) to catch the view of sunrise on the Jade Snow Mountain. I’m sure it’s quite spectacular though the clouds didn’t give me much luck when I went.
